Pineapple fruit is a delicious summer treat while lounging at the beach or during a backyard barbeque, but you probably didn’t know these interesting facts about the tropical fruit. One pineapple fruit takes three years to mature, and a pineapple plant only produces one pineapple every two years. Pineapple stop ripening once they are harvested and should be eaten quickly. The fruit is tasty and good for your health. It’s chock-full of vitamin C and studies have shown that pineapple can reduce arthritis pains. In fact, part of the reason pineapples spread across the world was because sailors kept them aboard their ships to ward off scurvy. The juicy fruit originated in South American, but today, most of our pineapple comes from Southeast Asia. Of course, Hawaii is also closely associated with the fruit and has affected their culture. On a sunny day, if it starts to drizzle, local Hawaiians call it pineapple juice!
